Langtang Valley Trek overviews

Langtang Valley Trek is often known as Nepal’s best-kept secret. The valley is situated only 30 kilometers north of the Kathmandu Valley and shares borders with Tibet. Even though it lies in close proximity to the country’s most developed region – Kathmandu Valley – the Langtang Trekking still sees very few trekkers in comparison to the Everest and Annapurna regions. The Langtang Valley will unfold the ancient and beautiful Tibetan Buddhist culture of several ethnic groups in the laps of the Silver Peaks. The Langtang Valley is surrounded by awe-inspiring peaks on either side. The perfect harmony between the variations in elevation, topography, and geology has resulted in a very unique vegetation of the Langtang Valley trek.

The 10-day-long Langtang Region trekking begins with a memorable bus ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi in Rasuwa district. The trekking trail consists of beautiful places like the viewpoint of Lama Hotel, the main Langtang village, and the historic KyanjinGompa at an elevation of 3,870m. On our return journey, we will trek back to Dhunche through another route for a more enriched trekking experience. We will trek down through ThuloSyabru to reach ShingGompa, another important monastery in the region. From the Gompa, we will trek down to Dhunche from where we will catch a ride to Kathmandu. We also have a Kathmandu Valley sightseeing tour scheduled for the next day, where we will visit some of the famous cultural and religious monuments of the valley that have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Langtang area was hugely affected by the great earthquake of 2015, but with quick restoration and reconstruction efforts, the valley has bounced back to a commendable phase and has been reopened for trekking. The very rarely trekked trail of Langtang will lead us through diverse and rich vegetation that ranges from lush evergreen forests to cascading streams and sub-alpine grasslands. It is an extremely gratifying trek as we can have spellbinding views of central Nepalese mountains like the Langtang Lirung, the tallest in the region; the massive Ganesh Himal Massif; Gang Chhenpo, Lenpo Gang, and Dorje Lakpa among other equally alluring peaks. To the south of the valley, we can see Chimse Danda Ridge, Ganja La Pass, and the regal Mt. Jugal culminating in Mt. Dorje Lakpa. Since we will trek through the Langtang National Park, we might have rare sightings of exotic Himalayan faunas like the red panda, musk deer, snow leopard, and Himalayan Thar. It is also a great chance to explore the unique culture of the Tamang people, their interesting way of life, civilization, and culture that has resulted in a special blend of Nepalese and Tibetan Buddhism.

Langtang Valley Trek is also known as the Valley of Glaciers, the region is home to over 70 glaciers sourced from different mountains. During our trek, we will be able to view some of these colossal glaciers that promise an unforgettable experience. There are also several pristine high-altitude ice lakes such as Gosaikunda, BhairavKunda, and DudhKunda – which are of great religious significance to Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims.

The trek can also be customized to add new places and regions like the popular Gosaikunda Lake as per the trekker’s choice. Since the trek is of moderate-grade difficulty, it can be undertaken by anyone in good physical health. Places like SyabruBesi and Dhunche are dotted with all kinds of amenities, while there are also all kinds of basic facilities available in the Langtang and Gosaikunda routes.

Day 5 : Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,850m – 04 hours.

Today, embark on a leisurely walk for a few hours as the morning unfolds. Begin with a short climb, gradually making your way towards a wider expanse of land, where the gorge opens up into a breathtaking valley. Here, you will be surrounded by majestic snow-clad peaks on both sides of the hills, creating a truly awe-inspiring sight. Along the way, you will come across a few prayer walls, adding a touch of serenity to your journey. Take the time to soak in the magnificent mountain views as you continue your walk, eventually reaching the Kyanjin Gompa area.

Kyanjin Gompa offers a wide selection of more than 15 lodges and guest houses, providing comfortable accommodations for your stay. This area is also home to an old cheese factory, which is a unique feature of the region. It is interesting to note that the name "Gompa" is slowly fading away, as the structure is more of a small wooden chapel rather than a traditional monastery. Situated on top of Kyanjin and Langtang Valley, amidst moraine rocks and boulders along the route to Langtang Lirung glacier, this location is truly remarkable.

A wonderful moderate trekking to Langtang Valley with a touch of high altitude

A wonderful moderate trek to Langtang Valley with a touch of high altitude, every day was a new and fresh day. The views were spectacular from the high ridge top of Kyanjin-Ri and Tserko-Ri, it was truly a marvelous experience. I wish had much longer days to enjoy more at Kyanjin Gompa and its beautiful surroundings.

An enjoyable short, scenic trek to Langtang Valley

An enjoyable short, scenic trek to Langtang Valley, it was a pleasant walk, although it was many steep ups. On reaching Langtang Valley at Kyanjin Gompa, the views were exceptional in the comfort of a nice lovely lodge.

The climb to Tserko-Ri on rest day, it was strenuous and steep haul, but with the support of our guide. We made it on top the highest spot of the adventure facing glorious panorama of whole Langtang Himal range. The scenery from the top was breathtaking like in a dream or a fantasy, being close to towering Snow Mountains. Certainly a great short trip of a week and most enjoyable thanks to our guide and porters as well to Team Himalayas for the wonderful services.

Day 4 : Trek to Langtang village 3,430m – 06 hours.

Starting from Lama Hotel, you will begin your morning walk along the same trail for about an hour. After passing Riverside, the route will divert, leading you through a small settlement known as Bamboo. This charming place is surrounded by bamboo thickets and features a few teahouses and simple lodges. It is worth noting that Bamboo is situated in a cooler area, hidden in a river gorge with dense woodland. Keep your eyes open, as this might be the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of the elusive Red Panda. As you continue your walk, you will pass by a few small settlements and farms before reaching Ghoretabla. This small settlement houses the Nepal Army stations, serving as Park wardens.

Situated in the middle of a beautiful forested area, Ghoretabla offers a serene atmosphere with a few lodges scattered around. Take the opportunity to stop here for a delicious lunch, as the altitude gradually increases and the air becomes cooler. After lunch, your journey will continue toward Langtang village, where you will spend the night.

The guide and staff of Team Himalaya were much better than I expected very efficient in their work, taking care of us. It was a wonderful experience joining Langtang Valley Trekking with the one and only Team Himalaya. I would like to recommend all to book and join Team Himalaya.
