Jomsom Muktinath Trek are two of the most famous and Trekked regions in Nepal. At Team Himalaya, we have carefully handcrafted a trekking itinerary to offer you the best of both worlds. The 14-day-long Jomsom Muktinath Trek encompasses northwestern Nepal’s Mustang and Myagdi districts. Mustang – also known as the Land beyond the Himalayas lies to the north of spellbinding Himalayan ranges like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Jomsom – Mustang's headquarters lies at an elevation of 2,700m, whereas, the sacred shrine of Muktinath Temple lies at an elevation of 3,710m. Another main highlight of the trek is the hike to Pun Hill (3,210m), a famous viewpoint in the Annapurna region that will grant you mesmerizing views of over 20 soaring beautiful mountains.

The Jomsom Muktinath Trek commences with a scenic journey to Pokhara in the Kaski district either by road or air. The famous Lake City is also the gateway to most of the trekking regions in north-western Nepal. From Pokhara, we will take a short drive to Nayapul, from where we will begin our trek. We will trek to Ghorepani, a popular village in the region via Tirkhedhunga. After proper acclimatization at Ghorepani, we will trek to Pun Hill next to catch the sunrise views. The most popular viewpoint in the region and rightly so, Pun Hill grants unforgettable views of mountains. After trekking down Pun Hill, we will continue our journey towards the Mustang district. We will trek mainly northward to reach Muktinath via picturesque Thakali settlements like Tatopani, Ghasa, Marpha, and Kagbeni. After visiting the sacred temple, we will drive back to Jomsom from where we’ll catch a flight to Pokhara and subsequently, Kathmandu.

Since Jomsom Muktinath Trekking will take you to the best places northwestern Nepal has to offer, you will be left mesmerized by the extent of contrasting natural beauty. Located in the sub-alpine region, the trek to Pun Hill will take you through diverse and rich vegetation. From here, you can have a panoramic view of more than 20 peaks including major peaks like Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Mt. Machhapuchhre, the Pokhara Valley, and Mustang region. On the other hand, the Mustang is characterized by contrasts. Since it lies in the Tibetan Plateau, it has arid, dry, and harsh terrain, but is surrounded close by beautiful mountains. The beauty of Jomsom and Muktinath is simply mesmerizing.

We will also have the amazing chance to trek on the trail made by the Kali Gandaki Gorge, also known as the world’s deepest gorge. The trail passes through several beautiful hamlets of Magadi and Mustang districts like Ghorepani, Marpha, and Kagbeni, the trekking will be a beautiful cultural revelation at the same time. Thus, the journey offers the rare chance to witness and experience the rich culture of the Gurungs, Puns, Magars, and Thakalis who have preserved the beauty of their culture and traditions perfectly. Since the trek revolves around moderate elevation, any individual in good physical health is a good candidate for the trek.

FAQs

Will I get safe drinking water in the Annapurna Region?

Yes, you can refill your water bottle with boiled or purified water in the teahouses. It is better not to drink the water from the tap or the small streams as it might have negative effects on your health. So, to prevent that you should carry some purifying tablets with you.

How difficult is the Annapurna Region trekking?

The trek is moderate as there will be no climbing with ropes and all. Most of the trails such as Mardi Himal Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek involve long paths that might need you to go up and downs. So, it might be difficult for some people with back and ankle problems. But, with proper guidance and enough break times, almost anyone can complete the trek.

Is there a chance of getting altitude sickness during the trek?

The Poonhill trek’s elevation is 3,190 m while the elevation of Thorong-la pass is 5,416 m. Generally, people get the symptoms of altitude sickness once they pass the 3000m elevation. So, to avoid uncertain circumstances it is better to get a health checkup and get a doctor consultation before doing the Annapurna Region Trekking.

Can I and my children do the Jomsom Muktinath Trek?

Yes, we have had many clients who have completed the Jomsom Muktinath trek with their children. Our guides will make sure you and your children are well taken care of during the whole trekking adventure. Advised to go trekking during the monsoon season of June to mid-September as there is heavy rainfall.

What kind of food will I get to have during the Trekking?

You might have heard of the typical term “Dal Bhat”, which is both fulfilling and healthy as well. Most of the foods you get are grown by local farmers. You might not have a lot of items on the Menus in the upper regions. You will get food items such as pasta, pancakes, bread, eggs, coffee, hot lemon, etc.

Will we be using tents during the Trek?

It is not necessary to spend your night in tents as there are several tea houses along the trek. So, we will not be using tents during the trek unless you want to have that kind of experience. If you have then you should probably let us know beforehand.

Should I need a porter for my trek?

Well, it depends pretty much on what trek you choose. Some treks involve a lot of difficult paths and routes so, it will be hard for you to carry heavy bags on your own. Hiring a porter can be beneficial as you can fully enjoy the trek without having a backache.

Will I be able to use my phone during the trek?

The mobile phone signal has reached most of the Annapurna Region. So, in case you miss someone from your home you can quickly check upon them. There are also many phone services like charging and recharge cards in almost every part of the Annapurna Region if you need them.

Is there the facility of ATM on the trekking?

Yes, At Jomsom there is such a facility of ATM. So, you need to use the service at Pokhara too.

What if I get sick or injured during the trek?

Firstly, our guides will sort out the things for you. However, if there is an emergency then the evacuation through helicopter can be done. For this reason, travel insurance is really important for you as it will help to cover the fees for the helicopter rescue.

What if I left the gears at my home?

You can easily get gears at Kathmandu. You can also rent the required gears easily so; you should not be worried much about forgetting the gears.

What kind of Guides will I get?

The guides you will be getting are all Nepalese. Each of our guides is experienced, knowledgeable, flexible, and licensed. They are all highly experienced professionals and know how to care for our valuable guests.

What kind of accommodation will I get during my trek?

You will be resting in tea houses and lodges. These hotels and lodges are small but comfortable. You will get pillows, sheets, and mattresses but in case you need spare blankets, you can ask for them. Bringing your pillow would be a great idea though. Wonderful trip on Jomsom to Muktinath Trek.

The flight from Pokhara to Jomsom airport was an amazing experience, overlooking mind-blowing views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas. Jomsom town was a lovely place to start our short hike to Muktinath Temple premises. The walk was very pleasant till Kagbeni village, then started the climb all the way up to the village. Muktinath Temple was close by, but the views made the difference looking massif range of Dhaulagiri North Face with Nilgiri’s peaks. The temple complex of Muktinath was so serene and beautiful, it was interesting to observe the pilgrims. Offering prayers and worship, we were blessed by the Hindu priest at Muktinath Temple. The whole area was so peaceful and interesting to watch both Hindu shrines and Buddhist monasteries close to each other.
Overall it was a great trip and we were truly blessed with the views and local cultures, thanks to Team Himalaya Trek for the wonderful trip on Jomsom to Muktinath Trek.

You can easily get gears at Kathmandu. You can also rent the required gears easily so; you should not be worried much about forgetting the gears.

What kind of Guides will I get?

The guides you will be getting are all Nepalese. Each of our guides is experienced, knowledgeable, flexible, and licensed. They are all highly experienced professionals and know how to care for our valuable guests.

What kind of accommodation will I get during my trek?

You will be resting in tea houses and lodges. These hotels and lodges are small but comfortable. Trip Reviews (1)
