Located in the Central Himalayan region of Nepal, the beautiful Langtang Valley is just 30 kilometers northwest of Nepalese Capital. Despite sharing close proximity, Kathmandu Valley and Langtang Valley are world apart. While the former is the center of country’s administration and also the epitome of cultural and historic beauty, latter is often hailed as the best hidden gem of Nepal. In the medieval times, Nepal had had wars with Tibet several times for salt. Some of the prominent areas where the war took place falls in the Langtang region of Nepal, which today is the third-most popular trekking region after Everest and Annapurna.

The region used to be an ancient trade route to Tibet for bartering salt and mountain goats with the food grains from South. Today, it is a well-recognized and much-loved trekking region that witnesses hundreds of trekkers every year. Tamang Heritage Trek is a one-of-a-kind, beautiful trek experience that combines the breathtaking natural scenery with unique, rich indigenous culture of the Tamang people, who have lived in the region for millenniums. A brainchild of Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program, the “Tamang Heritage Trail” is a newly opened off the beaten trach, which showcases the ancient lifestyle of the Tamang, Bhote, and Sherpa (Yolmo) culture.

The Tamangs, predominant inhabitants of the Langtang valley, are thought to be the descendants of Tibetans from Kerung who intermingled with the natives of Helambu. The region was a restricted region in the past due to its very close proximity with Tibet. Owing to this fact, the region’s beauty has not been scathed at all, still boasting of its natural, pure and wild state. Due to the remoteness, the region’s ancient way-of-life hasn’t change despite closeness to Kathmandu. During the trek, we will be able to stay in intricately built stone houses with beautiful, ornately made carvings and porches. The true Himalayan craftmanship is reflected not only in the traditional houses, but in the beautiful ornaments, warm boots and clothing adorned by these people.

Moreover, if you schedule your trek during festivals like Buddha Purnima or Sonam Lhosar, it will further enrich your experience by many folds.  In this way, we will be able to see and be part of a truly iconic civilization that has fostered despite of the harshest terrains. During the trek, we will also visit several monasteries of high religious and historical significance. Another highlight of the trek is a visit to the historical fort in Rasuwagadi which stands as a testimonial to the histoirical ties between Nepal and Tibet. Similarly, if our trek falls during annual caravan journey, we will witness gigantic herds of yaks heading north or southwards for trading purposes.

In addition to being a cultural marvel, the region is also one of the most naturally endowed regions in Nepal. It is home to towering silver peaks like Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal Massif, Jugal Mountain, Gang Chhenpo, Lenpo Gang, and DorjeLakpa among others. It is also fondly known as the lake district as there are several serene and pristine lakes at high altitude such as Gosainkunda, Dudhkunda, and Parvati Kunda along with over 70 glaciers sourcing from the regal central mountains.

There are all kinds of hospitality amenities available in Dhunche and Syabrubesi. The trial is also speckled with inns, homestays, and lodges. The trek will commence and end from the town of Syabrubesi.
