Best Places to View Sunrise in Nepal

Getting up early in the morning, no matter how much you hate waking up in the morning, and reaching that view point to catch that first glimpse of sun rise is definitely one of the best feelings in the world. It is just so much satisfying to see that first ray of light and letting yourself immerse in that natural light.

And for photographers and videographers, it’s an absolute dream to snap the best view of sunrise and let the world be mesmerized by their work of art.

Nagarkot

Nagarkot is one of the most popular hill stations in the country. It’s close enough from Kathmandu so it also receives quite a few local and foreign tourists. This hill station hosts some of the most luxurious hotels allowing you full comfort and the sightseeing is just breath taking. You can actually see 8 out of 13 Himalayan ranges of Nepal from here.

From Mt. Everest in the east to Mt. Dhaulagiri in the west, you will be able to enjoy the stunning view of snow-white peaks and the first rays of sun rising above these gigantic mountains in the morning.

Nagarkot is located at the height of 2,195m. It’s a two hour ride from Kathmandu, but you can also hike your way up. Go there for an overnight stay and get up early to catch the sun rise.

Sarangkot

If you’re planning to visit Pokhara while in Nepal, you should definitely go to Sarangkot. This hill station is located at the height of 1,600 m and allows you the full panoramic scene of Himalayan peaks like Annapurna II, Machhapuchhare and Dhaulagiri above the Pokhara valley.

You will be mesmerized to see the sun rays giving the golden glow to these snow white peaks. If you want to catch the best view of sunrise you will have to wake up incredibly early. From Pokhara you can take the road to reach Sarangkot, which takes about half an hour, after which you will need to walk another half hour to reach the view point. If you’re in the mood to walk, it will take you 3 hours to reach the top.

Kala Patthar

If you want the best view of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Kalapatthar is where you should go. You will be amazed to see the sun rising behind the world’s highest peak at dawn.

While the view is spectacular, reaching there is not for everyone. You will need to do the Everest Basecamp Trek, which takes about 12 days to complete. If you think you’re up for it, get your trekking shoes on, rest assured, your hard work will be worth it.

Poon Hill

Poon Hill is another magnificent view point of the Annapurna region. Also known as the Photographer’s Paradise, you will be able to get an amazing view of the sunrise from here. The sights are closer and clearer compared to that from Sarangkot. Again, this is another trekking destination. You will have to do the Poon Hill Trek and it takes about 5 days to complete the trek. Located at 3200 m, be prepared to be amazed at breathtaking sights.

 Gokyo Ri 

Gokyo ri is one of the  best  view point ,located in Everest region . perhaps It’s the best advantage view point to catch the sunrise & sunset over giant snow capped mountains from Gokyo Ri at 5,357 meters, which is the highest spot of this amazing trip, after a steep hard haul to the top looking around awesome panorama of world’s highest mountains from Mt. Cho Oyo 8,201 m straddling the border with Tibet along with Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest 8,848 m world’s number one, then worlds fourth highest Mt. Lhotse 8,516 m, Cholatse, Taweche and to the east worlds 05th highest Mt. Makalu at 8,463 m. You will have to do the earthier Gokyo valley Trek or Chola Pass Everest base camp Trek .
